With the fast space of artistic skills in the Nigerian entertainment industry, it is no doubt that the industry has actually helped in putting food on the tables of many youths especially either in music, acting, comedy or dance.

Gone are the days when parents will want to choose careers for their children by advising them to study medicine, law or accounting or engineering and any other good courses in the higher institutions. But today, the story is different.

With the fast trend of comedy in Nigeria, thanks can only be given to the veterans in the industry who actually made parents see that aside other studied courses, there are various reasonable means by which one can survive without using it’s certificate.

Popular comedian and actor, Okey Bakassi, has disclosed that despite how the industry strives to survive, there are pretenders who are trying to slow down the growth of the entertainment industry.

According to him, the pretenders are people who notice that the business can fetch them money and they decide to do it because they may have the talent but don’t have the work ethics to sustain their career.

He explained that sustaining himself in the industry was not easy as he had to beg for shows just to prove that he was good at what he was doing and after the event, he would be paid stipend for transportation.

Comedians are meant to be funny, right? Yes, the stand-up comedians dominating Nigeria’s humour business landscape are funny quite alright on stage, but very serious in business.
With assets running into billions of naira, they are light years apart from the past crops of old comedians who wait on people for meager rations of life.
They may look funny and unserious, but they are cavorting to the bank and living their dreams. Ali Baba, the father of stand-up comedians in Nigeria, aptly captured in words, the profitability of comedy business when he said: “comedy is a funny business, a very big business.”
After a careful study of the careers of these successful comedians, Showtime came to the conclusion that a number of them are outstanding. Here are the top 10 in this branch of entertainment in terms of their assets, the money they charge per show, the various products or corporate endorsements they did, and their established brands from which they make steady income.

Alibaba:
With over thirty years of performing on stage and hosting events for almost all Nigeria’s former presidents and the present one, Ali Baba sits at the apex. Even President Olusegun Obasanjo once jokingly accused him of being overpaid for his performance. His Lekki mansion where he lives is said to be worth more than N300 million alone.
Alibaba makes his money through a chain of businesses in Lagos: as a reputed motivational speaker, a professional comedian patronised by almost all the big brands and political bigwigs in the country. His net worth is estimated to be over 3 billion naira. It is estimated that he performs in a minimum of two events weekly at an average rate of 4 to 4.5million naira per event. That would add up to about 400 million naira per annum!
Basketmouth:
He has been associated with many companies, signing different endorsement contracts in the last six years. He also has an impressive list of branding deals with Amstel Malta, Globacom Ltd. and a host of others. With his sold-out shows in South African, London, and even in far away America, and on his Basketmouth Uncensored platform, the comedian has been so consistent since he came to limelight.
His assets are estimated to be worth 2 billion naira. His annual income may be in excess of 192 million, while endorsement deals run into over 120 million annually. His international show, Basketmouth Uncensored, rakes in an estimated 100million naira. This artiste makes over 360 million annually.
I Go Dye:
United Nations Millennium Developmental Goal Ambassador, Amb. Francis Agoda, fondly called I Go Dye is the C.E.O of Revamp Construction Company, a property, real estate and road Construction Company. An estimate of his annual income stands between 350 and 500million naira, while his net worth is valued at over 2 billion naira. With properties in choice areas across Nigeria, and fleet of luxury cars, he is the man to beat. He also has a special performing relationship with almost all the governors in the country. His business empire is increasing every day. Presently, he is constructing a bottle water company, Franstel Natural Bottle Water.
Julius Agwu:
He made over 20 million naira alone from the launch of his book when he turned 40. He has properties scattered all over the country, a state-of-the-art audio and video studio, and more political affiliates than any other comedian.
For over a decade now, Julius Agwu has been organising two events: Crack Your Ribs and Laugh for Christ Sake. He is reputed to own properties in 3 states in Nigeria, and is also the C.E.O of Real Laff Entertainment Company which is an event management firm. His performance fee is between 2 to 3million naira per event, and his annual take-home is estimated at 180million while his personally organised events are estimated to be about 140 million annually. His net worth is valued to be 1.5 billion naira.
AY:
Since his foray into this money making business, he has risen faster than anticipated with a performance fee that is between 1 and 2 million naira per event, while his A.Y Live events organised annually rakes in 160 million annually. He is said to be earning 280 million naira annually. His net worth is put at 800 million naira. He is also working on his MVP club and also runs an event company. He also has fleets of cars and properties at Lekki area in Lagos.
Gbenga Adeyinka:
No comedian anchors more events than him presently. He is constantly busy and a top choice with politicians.He has properties and several business interests besides his Laffmattaz whichis always a sold out show with more than 5000 people in attendance every year
Okey Bakaasi:
He anchors upscale events steadily and must have made huge money from politics too as Senior Special Assistant on entertainment in Imo State. He has a mansion in Imo State and Canada.
TEE-A:
A highly gifted wedding MC, he has equipment and an events company. He anchors mainly heightened events and also does private businesses
BOVI:
He has made a lot of money lately from events, adverts and tours. He is probably the hottest kid right now.
YAW
Yaw is into the big league with a choice property in Lagos. He also makes money from MTN adverts, radio presentations, radio hypes, anchoring events, equipment leasing and other businesses.

    “Whatever you are doing and you feel it is gone; it will be waiting for you. No sinner will go unpunished. When I was his producer, I produced his first three successful albums that made him what he is today. He never came back to show gratitude; instead he is always fighting me. If I talked to him to tell him the right thing to do, he felt I had no right to tell him such because he felt he is a star. When I wanted to get married, he was among the people who mocked me. Now, he has a ‘baby mama.’ In life, when we don’t know the kind of death we would have, we shouldn’t laugh at people because we don’t know how our case would be.It is not as if I want to bring him down but I want you to know that nothing lasts forever.
    It is what you do in life that keeps you going eventually. I was on top of my game before I had the crisis. We should not bite the finger that fed us. God has made me big. I don’t need his money. I can talk about him because I am very comfortable. I don’t pay rent but where he lives today is still a rented apartment even with all his money.We are not friends on the job. But if I see him on the road, I can say hi to him. If he decides to respond, it is fine but if he doesn’t, it is also fine. Davido bought a house for his producer the other day. It is not as if Davido is working fully with the producer anymore but he never forgot that the producer made his first hit.I don’t want anything from him, it is already late.No way! I will never be his producer ever again! I can only give him advice”
On Timaya being upset over Patoranking dumping him for a new label,he said…..
    I learnt Timaya is upset about a young artiste called Patoranking. His songs are actually topping charts at the moment. He featured Timaya in one of his songs. I leant Timaya said he signed the boy on his label. I know it is a lie. Timaya doesn’t like paper work. I know that about him. The boy was picked up by another record label and I learnt Timaya is upset about it and saying nonsense about the boy. Why didn’t he sign the boy? He just shot a video for the boy and the new label, as I learnt, is even ready to pay him what he spent but I learnt he refused the money.
    I was the one that discovered the boy at Ebutte Meta. Till now, the boy has an album in my studio. I had released one or two songs for him and I was about to release more when I had the crisis with my ex. Timaya came to my studio and saw the boy. I don’t know how it happened but they left my studio. I didn’t even mind because when I had that issue, I had to let go of everybody around me. So immediately, Timaya did a song with him and shot the video without any form of agreement. Now, he is saying the boy is an ingrate

Are you in support of ministers of God with private jets?
My bro, prosperity is of God, but I will be the last to talk against any man of God. I think people should just serve God and forget about people’s wealth. There is one man of God I love with all of my heart and I can say he is the only person I see that behaves like Jesus even if so many talk against him. I love him; I am not a member of his church but I love him. His name is T B Joshua.


You once gave out a prophesy that before the end of 2015, two governors will die, is it really necessary for them to die or better to change their ways?
(Laughs). I gave it last year and the Kaduna State Governor died few weeks after. I just obey the voice of God whether people like it or not. I do what He says, not what people want to hear. One thing is sure, I don’t speak when God has not spoken.

What do you think is the reason people don’t believe your prophesies?
Well to answer your question, I am Prophet Emmanuel Ifechukwude people know me as prophet Soul E. I am not called for everyone, I am call to nations not just Nigeria. When my master Jesus was on earth, people did not believe him and with all he did, they still killed him. So, it’s expected that some people will not believe. It does not bother me and it does not change the fact that God is using me for those that believe.

Well-spoken prophet. Now, with all your revelations, why is it that some of it are yet to come to pass eg, the WizKid and Davido’s case?
When God speaks through his prophet, it’s a warning to those who are involved. Like I said about the two guys and we have been praying for the protection of God over their lives. So, we are happy that they are strong and still doing what they love doing, I will not be happy if we lose another act again, so we are praying.

You said you do not know Davido and WizKid, but as an artiste, you still have the opportunity of meeting fellow colleagues in the industry. So why not bring them closer to advise them?
I am not an artiste, I am a minister the gospel, I am a Prophet, not the Soul E you guys used to know. So mine is to pass the word to whosoever God sent me to. Yes, I don’t know them one on one; we are not friends neither are we close. So, I have passed the message. He that has an ear will hear and get closer to God.

You claimed not to be an artiste, but you still sing and your latest song ‘Thank God’ is still making waves
Yes, I sing but I am not an artist, I am a minister. I don’t do music because I want to be known, I do music because I want to minister to lives and bring them back to God. That’s what makes me different.

Enlighten us more, do you own a personal ministry, or you worship in another church?
I don’t run a church for now, I do ministry except the Lord asks me to, but for now, I do programs here and there. We storm cities, nations, doing prophetic healings and meetings. The name of my ministry is called ‘The Kingdom Builders Assembly.’ The Lord gave me a mandate to raise men and women for him. So, we build and raise men for the kingdom.

What about the collection of tithes, is it a right thing or an obligation?
Spiritual things are not for babies’; paying of tithes is biblical and if you want to be great in life, you will obey that instruction.

As a prophet of God, why haven’t you received the a revelation about the Chibok girls?
I don’t follow the crowd, why should I say what God has not told me? If he tells me anything concerning the girls, I will tell it to the world.

Wave making singer, Waje, has revealed the kind of man she would want to spend the rest of her life with. According to the singer, her must be muscular in order to carry her well.
The Edo state-born singer said since she is on the chubby side, her kind of man should be tall, handsome and should be very caring.
Speaking on the international acceptance of Nigerian music, she explained that Nigerian music is more accepted outside the country than here in Nigeria.

“I finished a show in Kenya and after a shoot, I was tired and I wanted to get something, and I went out without my shoes on so my assistant said I should put on my shoes, and I said if anybody knows me here, I would give him N100,000 and immediately I entered, people were coming to take pictures with me, i was surprised.
“But if it were to be Nigeria, they will just look at you pretending to be looking at their twitter page and before you know it, they have taken your photograph and tweet ‘in the airport with Waje,’ but the person will not even greet you,” she said.
Waje also cleared the ideology that in Nigeria, people just hate themselves, saying it is just a way of life of Nigerians because some people really don’t care and can be tough too
