Paolo Ballesterosm Makeup Transformation - Bellanaija - Octoberr2014004

                                                          Kim Kardashian
As a lot of us know by now the power of makeup seems to have no limit. From creating cleavage and making our noses slimmer to changing whole face shapes, makeup his the new plastic surgery.
For Filipino TV host Paolo Ballesteros, makeup is more than concealing a few dark spots and looking good – it’s changing his face to look like some our favourite celebrities.
From Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande to Megan Fox, Katy Perry & Miley Cyrus, Paolo has re-created famous faces almost to perfection. He uses just makeup, coloured contacts, wigs and we have to admit some of them made us gasp and giggle and he definitely won’t have a problem going for Halloween.
You can see more of his work on his Instagram page: @pochoy_29, but first check out some of our favourite transformations.

Big Brother Africa Hotshots Weekend! BN’s Jennifer Obiuwevbi’s Fun Time on the Scene in South Africa

BellaNaija at Big Brother Africa Hotshots Launch Weekend - Bellanaija - Octoberr2014129

Do you know what my favourite part of landing in South Africa is? Those few minutes before you start descending for landing…just when the sun starts to rise and you can feel the essence of SA. The fact that I was going to be at the live recording of the Big Brother Africa Hotshots was definitely a major plus and I couldn’t wait to get started on my Big Brother Hotshots Weekend.

After the rather bumpy landing, we finally got out of the plane and embraced the cold that I was warned about. I didn’t listen and wore something I thought would suffice…but boy was I wrong! I’m sure even the South African Immigration Officer rushed going over my passport and documents just to help me get to warmth quicker – although that was before she hailed me for “not being like my brothers & sisters who don’t come with the right documents“.
On arriving at the Garden Court Hotel, Sandton with my Nigerian colleagues –Azu Amatus and Gbenga Bada from NET NG the only thing on our mind was FOOD! It might be just me, but every time I get hungry and it’s finally time to eat, I take a tiny portion and get filled up quickly. Nah! it’s not just me!

After a quick breakfast, we headed to our rooms and finally got the much needed shut-eye that was deprived us on the flight.

Several hours later, we headed to the lobby and met the rest of our group from all over Africa for dinner at Winnies Jazz & Soul Restaurant. We were a pretty large group so we had to get two tables and went round the table introducing each other.
Dinner was a safe choice for me. After my “food disaster” on my trip to Abu Dhabi, I decided that my taste buds should throw away their Indiana Jones hats and whips and settle for what they are used to tasting.
First let me take a Selfie with my Selfie stick (Don't judge me!)

Ready for dinner…but first let me take a Selfie with my Selfie stick (Don’t judge me!)

Of course judging from the name of the restaurant, dinner wouldn’t have been complete without some live entertainment. A performer graced the stage and gave us several renditions of classics from South Africa and the world as well as a few original songs. Not the kind of music I like, but hey when in Rome…BellaNaija at Big Brother Africa Hotshots Launch Weekend - Bellanaija - Octoberr2014034BellaNaija at Big Brother Africa Hotshots Launch Weekend - Bellanaija - Octoberr2014119BellaNaija at Big Brother Africa Hotshots Launch Weekend - Bellanaija - Octoberr2014120

The next day was quite fun! We headed over to the Nickelodeon Channel launch where 2 new channels – Nick Jnr. and Nick Toons were being introduced to the kids. On arrival we got signed in and were given hats for the welcomed sun and were off to enjoy the activities!
Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks Africa Alex Okosi was present and the kids got to meet some of their favourite characters from the channels – Dora the Explorer, Diego, Raphael &Mikey from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sponge Bob Square Pants andChuckie and Tommy from the Rugrats. How do I know all this – I’m a proud kid at heart.

After the fun and excitement of the day, we were on our way back to the hotel and I could have sworn they were driving me back to Nigeria. Places are so far apart. Now, sadly while the others went clubbing and to watch movies after our return, I acted like an old lady, ordered dinner and headed to my room for some much needed rest. Plus I was a bit under the weather (Insert ‘Awwws’ and ‘Eyahs’ here).
Day 3 and the most important day of them all – the Big Brother Africa Hotshots launch! Was I excited? Yes! Why? For one my mum is a huge Big Brother fan and the fact that I was ‘possibly’ going to be shown on TV at the live show was a thrill. But personally I just love experiencing new things and places…so let’s go!
Sadly I didn’t get a full photo of my dress thanks to the very persistent cleaner who rushed me out of my room (I was really pained by that) but at least the Selfies I took will make up for that.
BellaNaija at Big Brother Africa Hotshots Launch Weekend - Bellanaija - Octoberr2014075
Most of you heard of the news that the Big Brother Africa house burned down, so sadly we had to make do with a smaller location. Irrespective of that, I must say they did a great job at making it work in 3 weeks. The venue, the house, the stage and the production still went on great and I think that just goes to show how much dedication they have towards putting together a great show.

While mingling and networking at the event, we got to take photos and get ready for the exciting night for Africa!

A few minutes past 5 we were ushered to the stage and seated where BBA hostIK Osakioduwa came out for a chat before the live show. Sadly we were asked to turn out phones off because of interference but we got to sneak a few photos.

Let me just tale this time to say, if you think the housemates looked hot from your screens, they are 100 times hotter in real life!
I thought the show went really well especially IK’s performance – now that was a pleasant surprise. The fact that the housemates had a talent show was also actually great as it gave us a peek at their personalities instead of having to wait for them to unravel during the show.

MTV Exec Alex Okosi responds to Online Uproar over “The Best Naija Songs Ever” List

        2face TCD

Music channel MTV Base ignited a fierce social media debate about the best of Nigerian music following a programme which aired on Nigeria’s Independence Day called “The Best Naija Songs Ever on MTV Base”.

The list of artistes and songs featured in the programme was determined by viewers of MTV Base, who voted via the MTV Base website http://www.mtvbase.com to choose their musical favourites starting from the channel’s launch on 22 February, 2005 till the present day. The “Top 20” voted for by MTV Base viewers comprised:
1. 2Face: African Queen
2. 9ice: Gongo Aso
3. D’Banj: Oliver Twist
4. P Square Feat. Waje : Do Me
5. Wizkid: Holla At Your Boy
6. Davido: Dami Duro
7. Ice Prince: Oleku
8. D’Banj: Why Me
9. M.I.: Safe
10. Olu Maintain: Yahooze
11. Naeto C: Kini Big Deal
12. Davido: Skelewu
13. Banky W: Lagos Party
14. Wizkid: Pakorumo
15. Asa: Jailer
16. P Square: Chop My Money
17. Wande Coal: Bumper To Bumper
18. Dr Sid: Surulere
19. Flavour: Nwa Baby (Remix)
20. KCee: Limpopo
Bonus Track: Iyanya: Kukere
Other artists/tracks that received an honourable mention included: Styl Plus: Olufunmi; Shank: Julie; DJ Jimmy Jatt: Stylee; Ikechukwu feat. Don Jazzy & D’banj: Wind Am Well; D’Banj: Fall in Love.
Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, welcomes the heated debate sparked by the programme
“We are thrilled to see the passion with which people are engaging in the discussion about the Best Naija Tracks. There has been concern in some quarters that the list didn’t include some of Nigeria’s most seminal artists and songs – it seems as if some people may have misinterpreted the campaign. This list of tracks, as voted by the public, was never intended to reflect the Best Naija Tracks of all time; the creation of this campaign is part of the build up to our 10th birthday and it was supposed to highlight artistes that have been played on our channel since the launch of MTV Base in 2005, hence the title “The Best Naija Tracks Ever on MTV Base”. We understand that the positioning could have been misleading on some of our platforms and we regret any confusion caused.”
“As a brand, we acknowledge and respect the fact that Nigeria has a long music history beyond the last 10 years and our work since launching MTV Base is to help develop and showcase the best of Nigerian and African music to a global audience. The “Best Naija Tracks Ever on MTV Base” campaign is really about celebrating the new generation of talent who have benefitted from the legends who paved the way for their successes today.”
“The important thing is that everyone has their own views about what makes a great song or a great artist, and we’re keen to hear their thoughts. We are continuing the debate and encouraging music fans to further engage with the campaign via our digital media platforms. We will also be filming a special MTV Base Nigerian music roundtable in Lagos on this topic, featuring artistes, DJs and music industry experts. The roundtable will air on MTV Base in November 2014 as part of the channel’s build up to our 10th birthday celebrations. Simultaneously, MTV Base is challenging music fans to create their own lists of Best Naija Tracks, and to post them on MTV Base social media assets, or to get involved in the conversation by using the hashtag #BaseBestNaijaTracks. Those engaging in the campaign stand the chance to have their comments featured in the roundtable discussion on MTV Base.”

An Open Letter To Tiwa Savage From A Nigerian House Wife [MUST READ]

Posted by 9jasouth on 10/15/2014
Posted in: GIST. 1 Comment

Please, before you read this, ensure you are mentally mature because this post is not intended to negatively judge Tiwa Savage! I wrote this so that I could submit my fifty naira take on the controversial video. Dear Tiwa Savage, I am a major fan of you and I have always loved your music right from the very start. I know how bad you might have felt seeing the way your fans reacted to your recently released video ‘Wanted’. I have decided to take time out to explain things to you and make you understand why we reacted the way we did. Tiwa, from inception you have been perceived to be an Ambassador of the Youth. You represented the quintessential sexy female role-model, especially in the entertainment world. When we listen to your songs, it sends a message across to the youth.
There is always something to ‘take home’ in your songs: for the young female, how to be simple and sexy without being trashy; for the young aspiring person, how hard work pays; for the up coming musician, how to sing songs that not only inspire the youths but motivates them in focusing on their dreams. My point exactly…we just loved you and your music (oh! the freshness of your songs). After all these and then the next thing we get from you is…’Wanted’! It was simply too much for some of us to handle. We were so shocked because for some of us, we thought “So she don join Maheeda group of companies!” Please do not blame the fans for reacting the way they did. You know how it is when you have a child who does and says all the right things and then Boom!…she comes out ‘Unclad’! If Maheeda or Cossy did a video like that, trust me, we won’t blink. We would simply say, Oh, its Maheeda! Oh, it’s Cossy! But you are neither of them, you are Tiwa “Omo” Savage, who sings beautiful songs. My advice?…Please do not give into the pressure of “S£x Sells” attitude in the music industry. We are shouting that Today’s Nigerian youth are losing their sense of culture and sense of self, majorly because we want to be accepted by the Westernised society! Please do not add to the factors contributing to societal decadence! Let us please practice what we preach through the music which you give to us and the home-videos we watch. I want that, at the end of the day, when my child sits to watch a musical video, it will inspire him/her to become a better person. Not a person, who believes in using violence, S£x and S£xually explicit materials to communicate. I believe, you wanted to say something with the ‘Wanted’ video, but what ever that message was, we didn’t get it because you didn’t give us that opportunity! Please, I didn’t want to say this but a husband who truly loves you, is supposed to protect his ‘wares’ and not make you do whatever to stay relevant in the public eye! Don’t feel bad about being criticised for your video, even though there are some ‘touts’ in our midst who seize every given opportunity to exhibit their ‘toutery’! Let me just tell you that, as long as you are in the public eye, you will constantly be judged so don’t let all the ‘noise’ about your video get to you. Celine dion was the one and only lady musician who never changed who she was and we all loved her music. So, we want you to keep being our ‘Celine dion’. Lol! People make mistakes and you are no exception because you are human (Losers, I hope you understand?!). After all, if you think about it, we have a right to complain because you are ‘working’ for us or is the music not for our own enjoyment? So if we say we want Spaghetti and sauce, why do you give us ‘koko garri and ground nuts’! Love you girl! You will always remain one of my number one s£xy female musician By NaijaHouseWife – See more at: http://www.ayayamedia.com/2014/06/an-open-letter-to-tiwa-savage-from.html#sthash.iQYT6i6B.dpuf

Why I have not married — Franca Brown

Posted by 9jasouth on 10/15/2014
Posted in: GIST. Leave a comment

Nigerians will hardly forget Franca Brown, who played the role of Mama Nosa in that popular TV drama, Behind the Clouds, which ran on NTA in the early 80s. The ageless actress who began her acting career as an undergraduate at University of Jos, shares the story of her journey into the world of make-believe. She also explains why she is still single among other issues.

YOU disappeared from the screen when the ovation was loud. What happened?

I have not disappeared. I’m still very much around. May be, you have not been watching movies, or I have not been regular on screen. But I have not disappeared.

But what are you doing presently?
I present a programme for Promasidor called “Nwanyi Onwuga.” It’s a cooking competition programme that I present in Igbo language. Each week, somebody wins a hundred thousand naira.

When did you start presenting the programme?
I started presenting the programme since last year. But before then, I have been doing other things on television.

Are you doing this because the scripts are no longer coming your way?
In Nollywood today, there’s a clique, and unfortunately, I don’t belong to the clique. Besides, I want to be doing my own thing that would generate more funds for me. That’s why I delved into television and movie production. So, I am still working. I have not abandoned acting.

Looking back, what would you say has changed about your acting career?
We are in a world where we must continue to learn everyday. When I do a film, I’m tempted to go back and watch it. All I do is to improve on my last job. That’s what I do, and that’s what I expect any actor or actress to do.You are as good as your last job, and when you look at your last job, you would notice some minor flaws here and there, that probably others might not take note of.

You are the best critic of yourself, because you should be able to tell yourself the truth. All I do is to sit back and take a critical look at the role I played in that film probably to ascertain where I need to improve on it.

That’s how I get improved on my work, and it’s because acting is my first love. That was what I studied in the university. I have come to understand the rudiments of acting and what it entails to go into production.

Most of the times, people look out for the humorous side of the next story, but I’m looking out for the flaws. I am my first critic. I look out for the flaws and also, ask people whether there is anyway I can improve on this or that. I would say, over the years, I have improved tremendously.

What’s the difference between your time, and what’s happening today?

When I started, we had a lot of people who did not know the direction they were going. But they found themselves in the industry. They learnt the ropes through apprenticeship. A lot of us started out by assessing our works by ourselves. Then, it was an all-comers affair. But now, the industry has been structured. We now have guilds, associations and places we can call our own. There is a lot of improvement and the industry welcomes a lot of new-comers, some of them are famous stars now. It wasn’t so during our time.

Would you say the industry has been fair to you in all respect?
Yes, I would say that the industry has been wonderfully fair to me. This is because I came out from nowhere and suddenly became a star, starting from television. I also came into the film industry and the stardom pushed on. I featured in Behind the Cloud which was a darling television series most families would not dare miss. That was because a lot of us were loved, and moreover, we had good audience that appreciated us.

You said, you came out from nowhere, how?
Yes, I came out from nowhere, because I was just a Theatre Arts student at the university of Jos. I went for an audition for a small girl role in Behind the Clouds, which gave me the platform. But surprisingly, I was given the role of a mother of two children. I wasn’t expecting the role, but the producers felt I have a motherly disposition. Suddenly, my name disappeared and everyone on the street was calling me Mama Nosa and Efe, not even the Adesuwa that was the character’s name. I enjoyed playing the role.

Most of your contemporaries, especially the cast of Behind the Cloud are nowhere to be found in today’s movie industry. What has been your staying power?

There is nothing you will call the staying power, it’s just ‘aluta-continua.’ I just continued, and if other members of the cast have continued, they would have excelled as well. But that’s the tide of life for you, it throws you onto a path and if you tread that path, it becomes your path, your chosen profession. I did not allow any tide of life to push me to anywhere. I used to do interior decoration for some blue chip industries alongside acting. I returned fully into the industry when I realised it has started becoming lucrative.

Did you go underground after starring in Behind the Cloud?
After starring in Behind the Cloud, I did Jezebel, which was one of the pioneer films in Nollywood. When I finished youth service in Jos, I relocated to Lagos, and secured a job in the bank. When the film industry started, I came into the industry.

Third film

The third film that was produced in the industry was Jezebel by Francis Agu and Emem Isong. I featured in Jezebel and I continued starring in other films. If you are talking about television, remember Behind the Clouds ran for several years. I earned about N150 as an undergraduate while starring in the TV series.

I used the money to buy myself a car and lived large on campus. I was living off-campus, so that I could have time to star in Behind the Clouds. My acting career started the moment I gained admission to study Theatre Arts at the University of Jos. I featured in films such as Valentino, Clash of Destiny, Discord, Cross of Agony, Human Cargo, My Goodwill, My Sweat, Never Let Go, Only Angel, Pains Of Love, Problem Child, Sawam, Sunrise, Tears and Sorrows, Leap of Faith and Endless Passion among others.

Don’t you believe in marriage?
I believe in marriage. I was born into a home, I have a father and a mother. But marriage has not come my way, and I don’t think it’s yet a challenge to me. When it comes my way, it comes.

But are you ready for the asking?
Why not! As a woman I am ready. – See more at: http://www.ayayamedia.com/2014/06/why-i-have-not-married-franca-brown.html#sthash.3BIjJTHI.dpuf
