Dozens Killed in Terrorist Attack in Western China

Chinese Paramilitary Policemen
BEIJING  (dpa/NAN) ― Dozens of people have died in attacks and clashes in a restive area of China’s far western region of Xinjiang, state media said on Tuesday.
Reports says police reportedly shot dead “dozens of members of the mob” who carried out a “terrorist attack” early Monday on a police station.

The group also attacked government offices and civilians in Elixku township in Xinjiang’s Shache.
“A gang armed with knives attacked a police station and government offices in Elixku township, and some moved on to the nearby Huangdi township, attacking civilians and smashing vehicles as they passed,” an official source said.
“Dozens of Uighur and Han civilians were killed or injured,” the agency quoted local police as saying, referring to the region’s Uighur ethnic minority and the Han Chinese majority who make up more than 90 per cent of China’s population.
“Initial investigation showed that it was a premeditated terror attack,” the agency reported.
But Dilxat Raxit, a spokesman for the Munich-based World Uighur Congress, quoted local sources as saying that the clashes followed a large protest against the Chinese government’s “extreme suppression” of Uighurs.
Armed police clashed with the protesters, killing 20 Uighurs and injuring 10, Raxit said in a statement.
Thirteen police officers were also killed in the clashes, and about 67 people were arrested, he said.
Raxit warned that China’s “provocation and discrimination” against Uighurs, a mainly Muslim minority, risked causing more local conflict in Xinjiang.
China’s ruling Communist Party has launched a major crackdown on terrorism and separatism in Xinjiang following a spate of recent attacks that were blamed on Uighurs, including one that left 39 dead and 94 injured in Urumqi, the regional capital, on May 22.
Uighurs make up about eight million of Xinjiang’s 21.8 million people.

At one time or another (especially if you live in Nigeria) I bet you have felt that indescribable frustration of attempting to withdraw money from an ATM only to find out that it’s out of service.
A 28-year-old Chinese woman named Lin, felt the exact same way. Only in her case, she got so angry that she literally destroyed the ATM with her bare hands.

                                               (News24)
Akure – Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State who recently dumped the Labour Party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said no individual or group can force him out of the PDP, reports The Sun.

He noted that his defection to the PDP had the backing of those that matter within the party.

The governor who spoke while addressing the youth leaders of the party across the country led by the national youth leader, Abdulahi Maibasira, said his defection to the PDP was not to create crisis or divide the party.

He noted that his joining the party will add value to it at both the state and national levels.

The governor was reacting to allegations by the state executive council of the party over sharing of positions and other matters.

5 tips to fight your beer belly

Posted by 9jasouth on 10/22/2014

                                     Belly putter (File)

There comes a day in many a man’s life when he finds himself standing in the shower, realising that he can’t see the bottom half of his body past his bulging midriff.
A beer belly, though not always caused by excessive beer consumption, frequently catches men by surprise: as we get older, less physically active and our metabolism changes, extra fat tends to accumulate into a less-than-attractive protruding potbelly.
But tummy fat doesn’t just mess with your good looks, it also comes with considerable medical dangers, including an increased risk of:

– heart disease
– high blood pressure
– raised cholesterol
– cancer
– diabetes
– heartburn
– dementia
– stroke
– sleep apnoea
– gall bladder problems

All of these should provide sufficient motivation for you to want to get rid of your extra-sized gut. The good news is that with a bit of determination and time you can do just that. Here are five top tips to help you fight and win the battle of the bulge.

1. Drink in moderation
Beer might be a lot of fun, but it also contains loads of empty kilojoules. The alcohol and sugar in beer tend to slow down your metabolism, resulting in a growth in stomach fat. To add to the beer drinker’s woes, the hops in your favourite brew contains an oestrogenic compound which can lead to hormonal imbalances and contribute to fat gain. Alcohol is known to be able to slow down your ability to burn fat by more than 30%.
Far be it from me to suggest that you should stop drinking beer and other alcoholic beverages altogether, but you should definitely consider moving to light beer and cutting down on your overall consumption if you want to see results in your waistline.
2. Cardiovascular and aerobic exercise
Before you start building muscles and toning your abs you need to get rid of the flab. The most effective way to lose fat all over your body, including your tummy, is by starting and sticking with a regular cardiovascular and aerobic exercise programme. Anything that will get your heart pumping, your blood flowing and your breath going will do: walking, swimming, running, cycling, soccer, tennis, squash, jumping rope, spinning, interval training, rowing… your options are endless.
Try to establish a 30-minute exercise plan three to five days a week. Weight loss exercises are only going to be effective if you make them a regular part of your life, so choose exercises that you actually enjoy doing. Keep it interesting and mix it up – you’re unlikely to stick with the programme if you end up doing the same old routine. You may want to find an exercise partner or even a group of people to keep you motivated.
Incorporate simple exercises into your everyday life by parking your car a bit further from the office in the morning, taking the stairs instead of the escalator or lift and going for a brisk walk at lunchtime.
3. Build your abs
Once you’re starting to lose weight around your middle as a result of your cardiovascular and aerobic programme, it’s time to include some abdominal strength exercises in your daily workout routine to strengthen and tone your stomach muscles. Think crunches, sit ups and the ab machine at the gym. While strength training is not effective at removing belly fat that is already there, it will help to prevent the accumulation of new, deep abdominal fat.
4. Improve your diet
All the exercise in the world isn’t going to get you a flatter tummy if you don’t combine it with a healthy and balanced diet and a reduced kilojoule intake. Rather than embarking on crash diets, make a concerted effort to permanently change your eating habits for the better. Here are some basic suggestions:
– reduce your portions – no need to feel bloated after every meal;
– drink 8 to 12 glasses of tap water, spread throughout the day to help your metabolism;
– cut down on sugary, fatty, fried and processed food (white bread, chips, pizza, fast food, cool drinks, chocolate bars, cake, etc.);
– eat more wholegrain cereals, breads and pastas;
– eat more raw and fresh fruit and vegetables;
– choose lean, low fat meats and grill or roast rather than fry them;
eat five balanced, smaller meals through the day rather than three large ones – it’ll improve your metabolism; and
– eat more soluble fibre (unpeeled apples, oats, cherries, etc.).

5. Relax and give it time

Let’s not kid ourselves, loosing your beer belly and getting back into shape takes time, commitment and patience. Set yourself realistic goals and don’t panic if nothing seems to be happening after the first week. Regular exercise and a better diet do really work, but you need to stick to your programme to see results.
Make sure to take time out and relax on a regular basis. Stress has been shown to lead to hormonal imbalances, especially involving the hormone cortisol, which is released during stressful situations and appears to stimulate the storage of fat around the abdomen and stomach

Is she thinking of other men?

This isn’t exactly what you want to hear, hotshot, but as it turns out 72% of women in long-term relationships fantasise about other men.

That’s what a new study from the Czech Republic found, Men’s Health reports.

What makes it worse is she’s more likely to do it the longer you’re with her.

That doens’t mean she will cheat, though, says Wendy Walsh, Ph.D.

It is merely a craving for newness in her head, not necessarily in her bed.

How to successfully quit smoking

Posted by 9jasouth on 10/22/2014

The study included 1 560 adult smokers in England who made at least one attempt to quit over six months.
About 45 percent used no aids to help them quit, while about 5 percent used prescription medication (nicotine replacement therapy, bupropion or varenicline) in combination with behavioural counselling.
Another 21 percent used prescription medication with brief advice, and about 30 percent used over-the-counter nicotine replacement products.

After six months, 23 percent of the participants were no longer smoking. Those who used the medication/counseling method were nearly three times more likely to quit than those who did not use medication or counseling.
Prescription meds and advice more effective
Taking a prescription medication with brief advice was also more effective than unaided attempts to quit.
However, smokers who used over-the-counter nicotine replacement therapy with no counseling had a reduced success rate, according to the study in the October issue of the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
“The results clearly show that the combination of prescription medication with behavioral support is the most successful method. More smokers should be guided towards these forms of treatment,” researcher Daniel Kotz, from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, said in a journal news release.
Smoking cessation is one of the most important health behaviour changes that physicians can encourage in their patients, Dr. J. Taylor Hays, director of the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Centre in Rochester, Minnesota, said in the news release.
“Hundreds of clinical trials that included thousands of patients have demonstrated the efficacy of combined behavioural therapy and pharmacotherapy for tobacco-dependence treatment.”
This study shows “that this approach can be translated to the real world and provide real benefit. This is a case where there is happily little difference between ‘theory and practice,'” Hays said.
“Health systems, hospitals, clinics, and providers now need to practice the well-established standard of care to save real lives in their real world.”

Lady steals Baby from Hospital,Post Photos on Facebook(PHOTOS)

         A Pennsylvania woman who falsely claimed to be pregnant was arraigned Friday on chargesof kidnapping a 3-day-old infant from a prestigious Pittsburgh hospital by pretending to be a nurseand sneaking the baby out in a bag. The newborn, Bryce Coleman, was unharmed and reunited with his family Thursday evening, several hours after he was taken.
        The woman accused of nabbing him, Breona Moore, 19, was charged with concealing the whereabouts of a child, kidnapping, reckless endangerment and interfering with the custody of a child, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The alleged kidnapping was so brazen, the baby’s mother said, Moore actually took the infant from her arms, explaining he needed “more tests.”
       Moore allegedly tucked the baby into

                             a handbag and walked out the front door of the hospital. Moore told police she “he had convinced people she was pregnant and had delivered the baby on Monday by C-section,” the criminal complaint read. The complicated ruse even involved postings to Facebook in which Moore apparently put up photos of herself pregnant, ultrasound images and status updates saying “I Just Want To Give Him So Much Love,” police said. It was Moore’s own family who contacted police shortly after the baby’s kidnapping was reported.

Baby Bryce’s family expressed incredible relief once the child was found. “God answered our prayers and we thank everyone who prayed and everyone who searched for the baby,” aunt Talesha Woodson told KDKA.
Moore and the child were found hiding in a closet in a downtown Pittsburgh building, law enforcement officials said. Moore said little during her arraignment Friday. She answered “yes, ma’am” when the judge asked if she understood the charges.
Hospital officials said they were “reviewing this event to see what improvements could be made in our security procedures.”
Moore remained jailed on $250,000 bond and was ordered to undergo a mental evaluation.
