The woman accused of nabbing him, Breona Moore, 19, was charged with concealing the whereabouts of a child, kidnapping, reckless endangerment and interfering with the custody of a child, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The alleged kidnapping was so brazen, the baby’s mother said, Moore actually took the infant from her arms, explaining he needed “more tests.”
Moore allegedly tucked the baby into
a handbag and walked out the front door of the hospital. Moore told police she “he had convinced people she was pregnant and had delivered the baby on Monday by C-section,” the criminal complaint read. The complicated ruse even involved postings to Facebook in which Moore apparently put up photos of herself pregnant, ultrasound images and status updates saying “I Just Want To Give Him So Much Love,” police said. It was Moore’s own family who contacted police shortly after the baby’s kidnapping was reported.
Moore and the child were found hiding in a closet in a downtown Pittsburgh building, law enforcement officials said. Moore said little during her arraignment Friday. She answered “yes, ma’am” when the judge asked if she understood the charges.
Hospital officials said they were “reviewing this event to see what improvements could be made in our security procedures.”
Moore remained jailed on $250,000 bond and was ordered to undergo a mental evaluation.
